Biografía de Johnny Prez

Johnny Prez was born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. Since he was a child, he felt music as a part of his life.He began his singing career in 1987 but it was not until 1992 that he recorded his first album “Los Nenes De La Medicina” from the group Kid Power Posse. “It was the first rap duet in Puerto Rico that changed the concept of this musical style. The reggae was not very popular in Spanish.” The álbum sold 700.000 copies and included the hits “La Medicina”, “El Gordo”, “Amor Diferente” y “Tiempo de Gozar”.

In 1993 Johnny released his second album “No More Games” with BMG Music. The production received a multiplatinum album, nominations in the Latin Billboard Awards & Premio Lo Nuestro, made appearances in various festivals & events like Calle Ocho, Hialeah Festival (Miami), Madison Square Garden, performed in show for the network Telemundo International & toured in Latin America and Spain. “This was a very strategic moment in my career”, he said.

His third production “Double Impact” was released in 1995 obtaining a second multiplatinum album, including “Juqueado”, “No Te Olvidaré”, “Tengo El Don” and “El Toro”.

In 1996 the group parted ways. Johnny returned in 1998 with a new musical concept, a new name and a new partner. “The name of the group was Déificos, “belong to God”. The album was recorded by PolyGram & sold over 150.000 copies, not to long after the group split up.

Johnny reappeared in 2002 as Johnny Prez and recorded “Kilate”, for Diamond Music, making a successful come back.2003 was a decisive year in his career. Ricardo Montaner, the famous singer and composer, whom was impressed by Johnny’s talent asked him to be part of his tour in Puerto Rico, performing in a total of 18 shows. “I closed the concerts instead of opening”, he remembers.
In 2004 Johnny presents Prez Industry, being the first rapper from Puerto Rico to introduce his own clothing line.2005, a new beginning for Prez with the release of “The Prezident”, his first production under the label Sony BMG. An album which reveals his magic and experiences.
“The Prezident” contains 19 songs where the lyrics are a key element along with the featured guests: Tego Calderón (international artist who worked with Fat Joe and 50 cents), Voltio (whom recorded with Jerry Rivera, la Sonora Poncena and Papo Lucas), Zion & Lennox (famous duet in America through their live concerts), Eddie Dee (the father of Reggaeton),Tito Rojas (most important exponent of the tropical music) Nicky Jam, his brother Pedro Prez, Chezina, Yaga & Mackie, Mikey Perfecto and John Eric. Johnny said, “It was an enjoyable experience sharing with so many big stars”.
